Plant Tissue Culture Concepts and Laboratory Exercises - CRC Press BookTissue culture as a plant production system for horticultural crops pp Cite as. Plant tissue culture is used to achieve many different objectives which have in common the growth of microbe-free plant material in an aseptic environment. The objective of this conference is the use of plant tissue culture as a plant production system for horticultural crops, and my role is to discuss the principles of plant tissue culture with respect to this objective. I have interpreted this to mean, to describe which plant tissue culture techniques we use and why we use them, that is, what are our reasons for proceeding in the way we do. Willy-nilly, some of the reasons are scientific and others are economic and marketplace-wise. I will not be dwelling on the latter even though it is of considerable and underlying importance.

Box 39 A, 07 Nitra, Slovakia. Cellular totipotency is one of the basic principles of plant biotechnology. The mature embryo ME is increasingly recognized as a valuable explant for developing regenerable cell lines in wheat biotechnology. We have previously developed a regeneration procedure based on fragmented ME in vitro culture. Before we can use this regeneration system as a model for molecular studies of the morphogenic pathway induced in vitro and investigate the functional links between regenerative capacity and transformation receptiveness, some questions need to be answered. Plant regeneration from cultured tissues is genetically controlled. Plant regeneration in culture can be achieved through embryogenesis or organogenesis.
In biological research, tissue culture refers to a method in which fragments of a tissue plant or animal tissue are introduced into a new, artificial environment, where they continue to function or grow. While fragments of a tissue are often used, it is important to note that entire organs are also used for tissue culture purposes. Here, such growth media as broth and agar are used to facilitate the process. Seed Culture. Seed culture is the type of tissue culture that is primarily used for plants such as orchids.
