The Royal Blog of Oz: Disneyland Records: The Wizard of Oz

I grew up with these records and for all of my childhood, these were OZ to me. Since the MGM film was only shown once a year in the s and I wasn't always allowed to watch it, I would retreat to my Disney OZ records and immerse myself in these. As a child, it never occurred to me that all of the characters were voiced by just a few actors. The lush arrangements are by Tutti Camarata. But as an 8 year-old kid, who knew? It took several decades and a lot of research to uncover all of this.

Please refresh the page and retry. All right. The film is universally revered. But I might as well come straight out and admit it. I have vivid memories of seeing it as a child. And I hated it. These were my objections.

Published on July 16, , it was Baum's personal favorite of the Oz books and tells of Cap'n Bill and Trot journeying to Oz and, with the help of the Scarecrow , overthrowing the cruel King Krewl of Jinxland. Cap'n Bill, a sailor with a wooden peg-leg, and his friend, a little girl named Trot, set out from California on a calm day for a short ride in their row-boat. A freak whirlpool capsizes their boat and pulls them under water, where they are carried by mermaids referred to but not seen to a cave. They are soon joined by a flying creature called an Ork.
