Book reviews and the occasional ramblings of a book blogger

Hey bookworms, today I bring you the first ever guest review to feature on Keeper of Pages; after buddy reading Between You and Me with Zuky BookBum , we decided to mix things up and do a review swap. Book Description:.

Told from two alternating perspectives, the redundancy in the telling about drove me mad, if I'm to be hones. Told from two alternating perspectives, the redundancy in the telling about drove me mad, if I'm to be honest; and after the kicker, I sat here rehashing all that I read, the disastrous dinner kettle incident in particular, the allowance and ban from using the car and in the end, find the story in many ways to be quite unbelievable. And typo's don't generally bother me, but a "30" degree sweltering heatwave in England mentioned twice really stuck out. Anyway, still a very readable debut with a nasty protagonist. Caught between two worlds, Caleb Stoltz is bound by a deathbed promise to raise his orphaned niece and nephew in Middle Grove, where life revolves around family, farm, faith—and long-held suspicions about outsiders. When disaster strikes, Caleb is thrust into an urban environment of high-tech medicine and the relentless rush of modern life. Reese Powell is poised to join the medical dynasty of her wealthy, successful parents. Bold, assertive, and quick-thinking, she lives for the addictive rush of saving lives. When a shocking accident brings Caleb Stoltz into her life, Reese is forced to deal with a situation that challenges everything she thinks she knows—and ultimately emboldens her to question her most powerful beliefs.

Reese, a 4th year medical student working in the hospital treating Jonah, finds herself inexplicably and intensely drawn to Caleb. Though their backgrounds are worlds apart, Caleb and Reese realize that they have more in common than at first glance. Both are forced to make difficult choices as they struggle to balance their own desires with a sense of obligation to family and tradition. Between You and Me is a cozy romance story where the romance sometimes seems like an afterthought. The story draws you in with complicated and nuanced themes; culture clash, recovery from trauma, and grief all play a key role in this story. Reese has a somewhat belated coming of age story, wherein she struggles to discover her own desires for her life and career after years of blindly following the plan laid out for her by her high-achieving parents. Wiggs introduces us to characters who seem worlds apart, but their deepest wants connect them and hint at universals in the human experience.
