Surface Book 2 keyboard is unresponsive: How to fix itPretty much what the title states. Nothing on the keyboard works with the exception of the function key light, and the tablet attachment key and light. The backlight also works. No other keys are responsive, and the touchpad does not work. The battery does charge and will distribute charge to the tablet. I've tried restarting, reattaching, verifying and updating drivers.
Surface Book doesn’t recognize Touchpad and Keyboard
The touchpad on Windows 10 laptops and computers can often stop working. Sometimes the touchpad's scrolling function will cease to function properly while at other times the touchpad may stop being detected by the Windows 10 device altogether. Issues relating to the touchpad on Windows 10 tablets, laptops, and computers can be caused by conflicting software and drivers or an out-of-date version of the Windows 10 operating system. Faulty hardware can also be a common cause of touchpad problems as can the changing of important settings. Confirm that it's connected properly. If your touchpad is not working, it can be worth checking to make sure that it's connected to your Windows 10 device properly.
Welcome to Reddit,
My Surface Book gen 1 recently did updates and then a day or so later the keyboard and trackpad mysteriously stopped working. Then I heard of 3 other people who experienced the same issue within 24 hours. The weird things was I could hit the Fn key and it would light up — but could not use the keyboard at all. Some of the people affected by this issue did system restores which worked. I tried many system restores — which gave me my keyboard and trackpad back BUT the Surface Book repeatedly bluescreened…. They sent me here:. I stumbled across the fact that windows update KB was installed when I had the updates install — so I removed it.
The Surface Book 2 is a powerhouse of a device designed to showcase the versatility of the Windows 10 platform, and how adept it can be both in a PC as well as a tablet environment. That also makes the detachable keyboard a core aspect of the device designed to uphold its productivity oriented nature. Fortunately, as with most other issues, there sure are ways to turn things around, and regain control over the keyboard once again. All you need to do is press and hold on to the power and volume up button for about 30 seconds. Continue holding on to the buttons for another about 15 seconds until nothing is shown. Press the power button next for the device to start up.
