Old Bennington Books Opens New Storefront |Owned and operated by Tom and Martha Veitch, who have over 30 years experience in the field, this new bookstore buys and sells used books and offers over 7, volumes including scarce and out-of-print, mostly non-fiction specialties including Vermont and U. For a decade, the Veitch's had previously operated an online book business known as Lightgate Books. Browsing our shop you will see thousands of books - used books - that are pristine and in dust jacket. We did not want to stock our shop with beat-up used books, so we put a lot of effort into finding those that either have not been read or read very gently. Throughout the s, the Veitch's worked as book scouts, finding rare and desirable titles and then selling them to dealers, which now allows them to offer a special selection of older and sometimes rare books they have collected. It can often take years to really get a feel for what kinds of books are truly rare, wanted by collectors or simply desirable in general, and the Veitch's certainly offer that experience. We calculate our prices to be competitive with the internet and for the most part, our asking price for any book published in the last thirty years will be cheaper than what you would pay through mail-order when you figure in the cost of shipping.
Book Stores in Bennington, VT
Buying an old or collectible book, while still offering up a potential reading experience, often has other intrinsic and sentimental value past just what's between the covers. These two great bibliophile notions will converge from all over the state of Vermont in Bennington on Sunday, Aug. John Hess, owner of Catamount Books in nearby Arlington, said that at last count there will be between 12 and 15 book and ephemera dealers on hand, and all carry a variety of past treasures such as maps, postcards, letters, prints and other such gems. Given this occasional bazaar-like vibe, one might think a book fair is like a flea market. One of the greatest benefits of attending such a fair, Koenig said, is that dealers have thoughtfully curated their inventory for the show.
